Scott Guise York PA Death, Director of Athletic Communications at York College of Pennsylvania has died

York College is deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Scott Guise, Director of Athletic Communications, who dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving the College and its athletic community. Scott’s unwavering commitment, genuine kindness, and passion for Spartan athletics left an indelible mark on everyone he touched.

Scott joined York College in 1995, stepping into a role that would define his career and shape the story of Spartan athletics for three decades. His work behind the scenes was instrumental in highlighting the achievements of student-athletes, teams, and coaches. Whether it was capturing iconic moments on camera, coordinating media coverage, or crafting compelling stories, Scott approached every task with meticulous attention to detail, humility, and a heartfelt love for the work.

Throughout his tenure, Scott was a steadfast presence during some of York College’s most memorable athletic moments. He was there to document the men’s basketball team’s historic 2005 Final Four run, ensuring that these triumphs were celebrated and remembered. But beyond the big victories, Scott’s true impact was in the countless small moments—reaching out to a student-athlete after a hard-fought game, congratulating a team on a hard-earned win, or simply offering words of encouragement. His care was quiet but powerful, and it reflected the depth of his character.

“Scott’s connection to all things Spartan—especially our student-athletes and staff—extended far beyond his professional role,” said Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation, Paul Saikia. “He didn’t just tell our story; he was a part of it. York College Athletics is more than a department; it’s a family, and Scott will always hold a special place within it.”

In recent years, Scott faced significant medical challenges. Despite this, he remained a steady and unwavering presence at athletic events, often behind the camera, on a headset, or working from his laptop while undergoing treatment. His loyalty and dedication never wavered. In recognition of his perseverance and service, Scott was honored as the 2025 recipient of the Middle Atlantic Conference Giant Steps Award, celebrating those who inspire others through resilience and commitment.

“Scott is a true inspiration,” said Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, Derek Behrenshausen. “He faced his health battles with incredible determination, all while continuing to serve and support our community at a high level. His impact extends beyond the camera and microphone—his strength and spirit will continue to inspire us all.”

Scott’s influence goes far beyond the countless games, stories, and statistics he helped produce. He was a steady force of kindness, calm leadership, and strength—an embodiment of what it means to be a true Spartan. His presence brought warmth and reassurance to everyone around him, from student-athletes to colleagues.

“York College’s motto is ‘Servire Est Vivere’—To Serve is to Live,” shared Associate Athletic Director Matt Day. “There is no better example of this than Scott. Whether he was on the sideline, in the press box, or checking in on colleagues, he was always there, always caring. His impact is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.”

Former Women’s Basketball Coach Betsy Witman reflected, “Scott was the face of York College Athletics that every student-athlete knew and loved. His passion was contagious, and his strength and courage were unmatched. I will truly miss my dear friend and coworker of nearly three decades.”

York College’s Director of Communications, Julie Loeper, also shared her thoughts: “Scott set a standard for excellence and dedication that we all strived to emulate. His work ethic was unmatched, and he approached every challenge with humility and resolve. We are better because of him.”

The College extends its deepest condolences to Scott’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy will endure in every story he told, every moment he captured, and every student-athlete he supported.

In tribute, a moment of silence will be observed before the start of the men’s and women’s basketball games on Saturday, December 6, as well as before the New Standard Invitational for wrestling. All events will be held at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, where York College honors Scott Guise’s life, legacy, and lasting impact.
